Claymore (Manga Review)

Claymore is a 2001 Japanese manga that ran all the way to 2014 on various publications, Written and illustrated by Norihiro Yagi.

The story takes place in a medieval setting following a young girl named Clare who is a hunter of Demons or as they are called Yoma, Yoma are shape shifters who eat human guts and hide in human settlements and towns, to fight them a shadowy organization genetically modifies young girls with Yoma flesh to gain Yoma like abilities like reflexes and the ability to sense Yoma from humans, I don’t want to talk much about the story because as it is typical to a manga the initial premise is nothing but a few scratches on the surface of what the actual story is about and throughout its 155 chapters the story takes many turns and twists and shifts its focus from Clare to other characters, overall the story is deep and rich with detail and the characters are all well developed and made into interesting figures.

The Art is fantastic, Yagi has a beautifully detailed style to his work, the fight sequences are snappy and quick and they are always interesting with some repetition which is expected, One of the things I love the most about the fight sequences are the quickness of the fights they don’t spend 10 chapters chipping away at each other with no end in sight which is a welcome thing in every manga.

I do have one minor gripe with the series which is the excessive exposition is in the story, sometimes these expositions are quite pointless like how a certain warrior performers a certain technique which they could always be cut, and one more thing since all of the warriors are silver haired girls it is kinda hard to follow who is it fighting at times even though they have different hairstyles, it is just not that easy to follow. the primary antagonist is one of the most interesting villains and I really loved her backstory.

Verdict: Claymore is a fun manga full of snap and quick action sequences with a very good story a little heavy in exposition but otherwise really good (9.0/10)
