The Nice Guys (Review)

The Nice Guys is directed by Shane Black and stars Russell Crowe and Ryan Gosling and it is an action buddy comedy about two private detectives looking for a missing girl. this movie is like a relic of a lost era, it does what most movies now days don’t and it does it so well you will be laughing out loud by the brilliant script and also thrilled by the amazing action sequences.

Both lead actors do a fantastic job, I can’t with a good conscious say which one is better because of how different their characters are, Crow is the macho loner guy who is hired by people to beat up someone harassing them or messing with their kid, he is calm and confident and he hits really hard without caring about how many bones he is going to break, Gosling however is a careless private detective who really doesn’t care much about his job he is just in it for the money and doesn’t put himself in really tough situations that he can’t get out of, he has a kid who in this film does most of the job.

Perhaps the most noticeable feature in the film is the setting, it takes place in 1977 and the movie is really authentic to that setting, from costumes to hair styles to almost everything little detail in the background it is a really beautiful job, paired with Shane Black’s amazing direction and you have one movie that you can’t get your eyes off it for its two hour run.

The best part of the film for me was the script, it is one of the funniest movies I have seen in a long time, for the most part Gosling brought the laughter with his girly screams and comments and it is just a joy to watch, there were some spectacular jokes in it that I think it deserved to make this movie a lot more successful than it is right now.

Verdict : Shane Black takes the old buddy comedy genre and brings it back to 2016 in one of the funniest and thought through films of the year.
