Far Cry 4 (Review)

Welcome — to Kyrat, a fictional Himalayan country ruled by King Pagan Min, you play as Ajay Ghale a returning Kyrati native from United States and you realize early on that you are not here to enjoy the scenery and have a fling with a native gir and go back home, you are here to tear shit up!

without getting much into the story things get complicated pretty fast, your father was a rebel leader who started a rebel army and wanted to take down the king and he got killed and your mother went to the United States and you were kept in the dark about this your whole life, but somehow you end up becoming a killing machine taking on a whole army by yourself, it is after all a video game.

Gameplay : standard shooter nothing very special here, if you take a stealth approach to the game then you will enjoy it a lot, I used a bow for almost all of the game, and a silenced shotgun for close combat and taking on outposts and fortresses were a blast, however the Ubisoft game mechanics (radio towers, skin animals, tail this guy to his hideout and kill him) also apply here and they are not ageing well, please come up with something else Ubi it is 2015 if I want a bigger bag to hold more ammo I won’t hunt a skin a honey badger I will buy it on Amazon.

Graphics and Art direction : this is where the game really shines, Kyrat is beautiful and artistic and you will have trouble not getting distracted by its mountains and rivers and crazy animals, I think I prefer this setting more than the other Far Cry games so for that Ubi did a good job.

Sounds, Music and voice work : another area where Far Cry 4 is seriously awesome, Troy Baker did a great job as Pagan Min and the rest of the cast is also great, James A. Wood brings a macho-manly voice to Ajay which is very welcome, gun sounds and animal sounds are top notch I don’t think anyone can say a bad thing about this part of Far Cry 4.

Story, Setting and characters : I hate everyone in this game! all of them I wish I had a chance to kill them all…..ehhh well I kinda did kill them all, the characters are awful, mind you not bad written or something no they are just jerks, the main enemy of the game end up being the one I wanted to side with at the end of the game that is how much I hated Amita and Sabal, fucking jerks! and here watch me kill Amita, the story is not amazing but it is serviceable Pagan is under used which is a shame he is funny and dark and I enjoyed his phone calls, and uncovering the truth behind your family is a nice thing,

Online and Multiplayer : this part impressed when I didn’t expected it to, the game comes with a Map editor which allows you to make your own outposts and publish them online for others to play and you can play countless of maps created by the players some of them are awesome!, the other online death matches are great but they lack depth and options it feels like they were in a rush to finish it up.

Final thoughts: Ubisoft’s Far Cry is shaping up to become their best franchise, with Far Cry 3 getting so much praise and Far Cry 4 not being so far behind, I am looking forward to see where the series will go next.
